Back to where it all started! A Gaming PC...
I had never envisaged going back to PC (Microsoft Windows) again since I had moved to Apple iMacs over 15 years ago....but here comes the twist in the plot. My soon to be teenager son puts in a humble request that he would like to build a Gaming PC with me!
That instigated the phone call to my cousin - to find out what was the latest in the PC market (as he has continued to use and build PCs) unlike myself who jumped ship 15 years ago. He guided me to www.pcpartpicker.com and then began the research.....
Honestly speaking it got me really engaged so much so that within two weeks every part was researched into, including prices, stocking issues, delivery times and potential build dates.
The parts we went for -
- Case - Be Quite! Pure Base 500 ATX
- CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- CPU Cooler - Be Quite! Dark Rock Pro 4
- Motherboard - MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
- Memory - 2 x 8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz
- PSU - Corsair VS550
- Video Card - XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB DDR5
- Storage - Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250GB M2 NVME SSD
- Storage - Seagate FireCuda 2 TB Hybrid HDD
- Monitor - Iiyama 32 inch 2K IPS Monitor
Most of the parts were ordered from Amazon (having Prime Membership really helps also due to exception customer services) and few from www.scan.co.uk .
We finally got our opportunity to put it all together on the 13th of May after my Mrs gave the green light!
It was an overall great experience putting it all together and both my boys really enjoyed the experience of ‘building’ their first gaming PC.
It’s been working very well, we have given it a good try with Far Cry 5 and Doom so far. Working on the high settings without any issues. Still trying to get my head around MS Windows as its been a while, but its definitely not something too difficult. I have to say I am definitely enjoying helping my son ;)!
Come on, Seraj, admit it. PC is better than Mac!
ReplyDeleteKamal (the cousin who is mentioned above!)
PC is definitely better than a Mac but only for gaming! Everything else I still prefer my iMac. ;)
